Emirates Steel Arkan strives to play a key role in Abu Dhabi Government diversification drive to deliver the 2030 vision.
Senaat showcases responsible growth and sustainability strategies at WFES 2016
19 January 2016, Abu Dhabi, UAE – For the fourth consecutive year, Senaat and its portfolio companies including Emirates Steel, NPCC, Ducab, Arkan, Agthia and Al Foah jointly exhibited various environmental initiatives and achievements in this year’s edition of the World Future Energy summit (WFES) in Abu Dhabi.
Guided by its aims to achieve “Industrial success grown responsibly”, Senaat exhibited its efforts to drive sustainability across its different portfolio companies, which operate in a wide range of sectors including metals, oil and gas services, construction and building materials and food and beverage manufacturing.
Commenting on Senaat’s involvement, Eng. Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Acting CEO of Senaat, said, “Over the past four years, our participation in the World Future Energy Summit has stemmed from our commitment to the principle of Industrial success grown responsibly. Particularly following the recent CoP21 Paris Climate Agreement, WFES embodies the UAE’s vision in bringing together leading entities from around the world to innovate and find ways to advance the global agenda for environmental sustainability and growth.”
He added, “As a company committed to contributing to the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, Senaat’s role is to create, optimise and champion capital-intensive assets on behalf of the Abu Dhabi Government and subsequently it is our responsibility to consistently find ways to maximise sustainable industrial growth. Our portfolio companies have consistently proven their ability to place environment innovation and sustainability among their different strategic priorities.”
Senaat portfolio companies also welcomed the opportunity to participate in WFES:
Andrew Shaw, Managing Director of Senaat portfolio company Ducab said, “As the first cable company in the world to have the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System certification, Ducab continues to demonstrate its commitment to sustainability. The Ducab manufacturing processes have been designed to maximize the use of recycled material and to minimize wastage of materials, water and of energy. The company’s employment of environmental-friendly processes in manufacturing make it a great example of achieving responsible success in the region.”

H.E. Dhafer Ayed Husain Al Ahbabi, Chairman of Al Foah, said, “The World Future Energy Summit is a great platform that brings together energy experts for all around the globe to work hand in hand on building a more sustainable economy. Al Foah for instance successfully transformed its date palm trees farm into the largest organic farm in the world in 2005 to produce dates in a safe and sustainable way.”
H.E. Saeed Ghumran Al Romaithi, Emirates Steel CEO, said, “Our participation at WFES is an example of Emirates Steel working to become a leader in sustainability in the UAE. This commitment is also demonstrated by other initiatives such as our ambitious CO2 capture project. Through this partnership with alternative energy company Masdar and Abu Dhabi national oil company ADNOC, we aim to reuse 800,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions. We are also working on many other sustainability initiatives – the most recent one being a strategic agreement with Masdar Institute and the Ministry of Energy to reuse dust generated in steel production, creating value from waste.”
